Catmint

Common name:Catmint
Botanical name:Nepeta X faassenii

Nepeta faassenii makes soft, gray green, undulating mounds that are 1.5' high when blooming. The small leaves are attractive to cats. This perennial has lavender blue flowers in late spring and early summer.

Southern Magnolia, Bull Bay

Common name:Southern Magnolia, Bull Bay
Botanical name:Magnolia grandiflora

Its large, simple, leathery appearance makes the pyramidal Magnolia grandiflora perfect for either a street or lawn tree. Its leaves are 4"-8" long, and its powerfully fragrant blooms are carried throughout the summer. Reddish brown cone shaped fruit appear in the fall. If these plants are grafted, they are more predictable (may take 15 years to bloom). Ungrafted trees will take only 2-3 years. Restricted root areas or heavy soils will slow the growth process.

Botanical name:Agapanthus 'Peter Pan'

This variety of Agapanthus has a growth of blue flowers between 12"-18" high. This variety is a dwarf form of the Agapanthus parent plant. It is both smaller in size and has much thinner leaves than the parent.

Japanese Blood Grass

Common name:Japanese Blood Grass
Botanical name:Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra'

This groundcover/grass can reach up to 3' tall and has green leaves that are reddish maroon at the tips.

Soils and Compost:

Practice grass-cycling by leaving short grass clippings on lawns after mowing, so that nutrients and organic matter are returned to the soil.

Integrated Pest Management:

Remove irrigation water and fertilizer from areas where you don't want weeds to grow.
