Deer Grass

Common name:Deer Grass
Botanical name:Muhlenbergia rigens

The Deer Grass is a warm season perennial that forms dense clumps from the base. The spike-like flower stalks grow 2'-3' tall and this grass has striking foundation form. The Deer Grass is native to California and needs watering once or twice a month after it has been established. The more water it has, the greener it is.

Terra Cotta Yarrow

Common name:Terra Cotta Yarrow
Botanical name:Achillea millefolium 'Terra Cotta'

This millefolium is a hybrid with soft green foliage and flowers that start off a bright salmon color, fading to terra cotta and changing to buff. There are multi-colored blossoms on a single plant that bloom throughout summer. Yarrows propagate easily from rooted cuttings or division, which should be performed in the early spring or fall. Following bloom, one should dead head the plant and divide the clumps when it appears crowded.

Streamside Monkey Flower

Common name:Streamside Monkey Flower
Botanical name:Mimulus guttatus

As the name implies, this Monkey Flower naturally grows along streams throughout Southern California. It blooms vigorously on stems 2'-3' tall. It acts as both an annual and perennial. Seeds travel through the water so it can be very invasive. It is a beautiful plant but make sure that it is planted in the proper area. It requires water to survive and is not drought tolerant.

Cleveland Blue Sage

Common name:Cleveland Blue Sage
Botanical name:Salvia clevelandii

The Cleveland Sage is a perennial shrub that grows 4' tall and wide. It has fragrant gray foliage and blue flowers that bloom between May and August. This shrub needs full sun and prefers well drained soil. The Cleveland Sage is native to California and is drought tolerant. -Cornflower Farms
